Spotted for Sale: Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series

One of the rarest supercars has hit the market, and you won't believe the price!

There are some cars we very seldom see even at Supercar Driver events, and one of those cars is the Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series. We have had a Solarbeam Yellow car at Secret Meet and Grantley Hall, but with just a handful registered in the UK, it's no wonder the SLS Black Series is a bit of a unicorn.

Rather than turning the regular SLS up to 11, the Black Series drives like an almost completely different car with handling especially on another level. The legendary 6.2 litre V8 produces 622bhp, 60 more than the standard SLS and sounds as incredible as ever, although it actually has a smidge less torque as it is set up more for redline chasing to suit the purpose of the Black Series, rather than a more lazy muscle car character.

We spoke about rarity, and just 350 worldwide, making it rarer even than any of the Holy Trinity hypercars. Just 15 of those are believed to be right-hand drive like this example, and even more confirmation of its unicorn status comes from a check on HowManyLeft, which shows just four taxed and seven SORN in the UK.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series

A white SLS Black Series featured on the front cover of Supercar Driver issue 25 when Jonty drove it and fell in love with it back in 2018. I suspect it is this very car, being a right-hand-drive car in white with the same name on the engine builder's plaque. Unfortunately it was PAO back then, as I'd love to know how much it has appreciated with just an additional 3,000 miles on the clock!

This car, finished in the catchily named Designo Mystic White 2, has 5,700 miles on the clock and, refreshingly, isn't listed as POA, but the price of these things nowadays doesn't make for easy reading, with this one listed at £824,990, putting the Black Series firmly in the territory of the likes of the Ferrari F12 TDF. The TDF has that irreplaceable Ferrari allure and history, and performance is on another level, but they're similar in terms of their intentions, and when it comes to pure rarity, the Black Series has the prancing horse well and truly beaten.

Simon Furlonger Specialist cars who are selling this Black Series call it arguably one of the most collectible contemporary limited production supercarsand if you want one of these, and I can't think of many cars with lower numbers. If you want one, you'll have to pounce given how rarely they show up on the market, and you're going to have to dig deep! Can they appreciate any further? Only time will tell.
