Two manual GT3s, one epic test: we pit the raw 997.2 GT3 against the mighty 991.2 GT3 to find out which is best.
The Porsche 997.2 GT3 and Porsche 991.2 GT3 are two of the most desirable modern 911s — both six-speed manuals, both built for purists, but from very different eras. In this film we take them into the Peak District for a true back-to-back comparison to see which GT3 delivers the ultimate driving experience.
We’ve owned two Porsche 997.1 GT3s before and always loved the raw Metzger engine and analogue character. We’ve also had a couple of Porsche 991.1 GT3s, which were thrilling to drive but only came with PDK. The 991.2 GT3 changed that — bringing back the manual gearbox, adding a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six, and creating what many call the perfect blend of old and new.
So does the 991.2 GT3 still carry some of the legendary Metzger magic from the 997.2 GT3? Or is the older car still the one to have if you value rawness over refinement?
This is the first YouTube video to directly compare the second-generation Porsche 997.2 GT3 and Porsche 991.2 GT3 head-to-head, with both cars tested properly on the road.
