Pagani Utopia Roadster is Here

Stunning new droptop version of Pagani's latest 864hp V12 hypercar announced.

It shows a car is rare when it has been on the market for two years and I've only seen one in a Pagani showroom and another at Goodwood FoS. Just 99 units of the fixed-roof Pagani Utopia will ever be produced, but with all of those quickly spoken for, Pagani is giving customers a second chance with the new Utopia Roadster.

The Coupe's 864hp twin-turbo V12 from AMG is retained, as is the option of a seven-speed manual transmission, or an automated paddle-shift if you'd prefer. Dry weight is just 1,280kg which is incredible for a V12-powered monster, thanks to all the composite materials you could imagine.

As with the coupe, the Roadster has active suspension, advanced traction control and an electronic diff with the aim of keeping the V12 under control and giving a reassuring character, and the new Pirelli P Zero Cyber tyres are implemented for the first time, with sensors that communicate with the car's systems to give the optimal settings for whatever conditions you find yourself in. A Sport Pack is also available which gives P Zero Trofeo RS tyres, carbo-titanium seats, titanium exhaust, carbon deflectors for the wheels and lashings of carbo-titanium on the inside too.

On paper, you'd be forgiven for thinking the Roadster is just a coupe with the roof taken off, but Pagani say they offer different experiences. With the hard roof in place, a large window lets in lots of light, a soft roof can also be used and stored behind the seats, and of course it can be removed in full, as you'll usually drive a car like this which has been built for enjoying in the best weather on the best roads.

We'll see the car for real for the first time at Pebble Beach this month. How much? Well, it's €3.1 million plus taxes, but with 130 units being produced, you've ever so slightly more chance of getting one than a coupe.
