No Tag, No Start stops a Ferrari Roma Spider from being stolen

For many, owning a Ferrari is the culmination of a dream, with hard work and dedication required to achieve that dream. Imagine if one night, whilst you were asleep, thieves were to break into your house and try to take the car that you worked so hard for.

This is a reality our customer felt this summer when thieves broke into their house at around 2.30 am and found the keys to the Roma tucked away in a Faraday pouch. Thankfully, the intruders only took the keys and were unable to gain access to the Global Telemetrics Driver Detection card (which allows the vehicle to start alongside the keys)

Global Telemetrics monitors a range of SmarTrack tracking devices in the Thatcham S7 and S5 categories, operational 24/7, 365 days a year, with a dedicated recovery team should the worst happen and a vehicle is stolen. S7 tracking devices act as a standalone system, with app access to monitor where the vehicle is at all times. Customers will be notified if the battery on their vehicle is disconnected or if the vehicle is moved without the ignition being switched on.

S5 tracking devices feature driver detection in the form of a card or mobile phone app; if the detection method is not present, a member of the Global Telemetrics team will contact you to check everything is ok. The S5+ iMOB device, which the Ferrari Roma had installed, features a driver detection card that acts as an immobiliser to the vehicle. If this card is not present or switched on, then the vehicle will not start.

This is exactly what happened to the intruders on this night; even though they had gained access to the car with the keys, the vehicle would not start. Our data shows that they made a number of attempts to start the vehicle before realising it wouldn’t work, gave up and began to look at other options.

It was at this point that the thieves began to manoeuvre their own vehicles into position to tow the vehicle away, but the noise that this generated woke up our customers' neighbours, who spooked the thieves enough for them to leave the scene.

Thanks to the SmarTrack No Tag, No Start S5+ iMOB devices, over £1.5m worth of vehicle thefts have been prevented during 2025. Realistically, this figure is more than likely far greater due to the fact that not all customers inform Global Telemetrics of an attempted theft, or simply may not even know themselves!
