Sunday 3rd March saw the return of an old favourite as we flocked to Donington Park for the Season Opener in aid of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. There are three main objectives for an event like this: raise lots of money for the charity, gather hundreds of members to officially kickstart the season, and of course come home with a big group photo!
For years, this was the format of Secret Meet that many longstanding members came to know and love, long before the days of hiring entire circuits and inviting the likes of McLaren and Pirelli to sponsor and run cars. We hadn’t got together like this since 2018, so we thought it was about time we brought it back to the calendar.
The stage was set, a vast expanse of tarmac for us to fill, marshals at the ready to make sure everyone was parked perfectly in line, breakfast rolls and coffees on the go along with plenty of volunteers on hand to collection donations for the hospice. We knew it would be cold but we weren’t quite expecting such dramatic fog as we arrived, which thankfully lifted just in time for the photo.
We filled the first few rows with a colourful array of cars who kindly donated an additional £100 for their prime position! By midday, we had rounded up over 200 cars and raised £15,000 for the charity thanks to all of you! If you couldn’t make it and would like to you can do so here.
Following your kind feedback, we’ll be making this a firm fixture in the events list again, perhaps at different locations across the country.
Thanks again to all the members who joined us and for your generous donations to a charity close to our hearts.
