1 of 19 UK Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm's Spotted for Sale

One of the rarest cars of recent times is up for grabs at Romans International, but is it worth the money?

The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio powerslid onto the performance saloon scene to great acclaim almost 10 years ago. It received praise for its punchy performance, great dynamics, and frankly, being a bit of an animal, but the Italians thought there was more animal to be uncaged, and the GTAm was born. Originally priced at £156,000, nearly £100,000 more than the list price of the Quadrifoglio it was based on, so it had better be good!

It is certainly extreme, with the rear seats removed in favour of a roll cage, windows behind the B pillar replaced with polycarbonate. You get carbon-backed bucket seats with six-point harnesses, and super-agressive body styling including a massive adjustable rear wing, carbon fibre wheel arches and a carbon fibre roof. All in, the weight-saving measures shave 100kg from the Quadrifoglio, and the 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 has been massaged up to 540hp from 503, plus an Akrapovic titanium exhaust system helps extract more power and noise whilst reducing a few extra grams. Carbon ceramic brakes are standard, as are centre-locking wheels (it's the first saloon car to feature centre-lockers), and the suspension is tuned to suit flat-out track driving.

500 units were produced worldwide, although that includes the less hardcore, four-seat GTA model as well. In reality, this is an exceptionally rare beast with just 19 GTAm's brought to the UK, and this is one of just three finished in Montreal Green Metallic, which I think is stunning.

Given the rarity, it's no surprise these are going for more than list, and we know of a red car which sold recently for similar money. It would take a specific person to spend over £180,000 on an Alfa saloon over something like a Porsche 991 GT3 RS or a Ferrari 430 Scuderia, even the likes of the BMW M4 CSL, but if you're into your rarities, something different, or if you're an Alfa aficionado with the wallet to match, one of these is a must for your collection. This car has an admirable 7,700 miles on the clock too, so let's hope it's new owner continues to enjoy it as intended!
